Over 300
nonprofit leaders attended SCANPO’s Sixth Annual Conference in
Columbia April
30- May 2, 2003. The theme was “The Nonprofit Sector:
Powerful, Professional, Proactive.” Kay Sprinkel Grace, an
internationally acclaimed consultant, speaker and writer,
delivered an exhilarating keynote address and presented several
sessions on the topic of fundraising. The conference featured
nationally known speakers and “subject matter experts” from
South Carolina. Additionally, South Carolina's First Lady,
Jenny Sanford, shared her experiences with nonprofit
organizations.
Participants had
many opportunities to network during breaks and at
a reception. The Community Leaders Luncheon gave
participants an opportunity to meet with grantmakers and other
community leaders from around the state. At the Meet and
Greet Breakfast attendees participated in discussions with
other leaders from organizations similar to theirs. Fourteen
exhibitors from around the Southeast showcased their products
and services to nonprofits. Books authored by conference
presenters as well as other books of interest to attendees were
for sale at the Conference Bookstore.
Members of the SC
Grantmakers Network participated in conference sessions on
funding capacity building called “Building to Last: A Grantmaker’s Guide to Strengthening Nonprofits.” Network members
also heard from nonprofit management support organizations about
current efforts in providing services to the state's sector.
Jesse Washington,
Commissioner of the South Carolina Human Affairs Commission,
gave a rousing closing keynote address on “The Power and
Influence of Nonprofits: Building a Mighty Human
Infrastructure.”
Mark your
calendars for the 2004 Annual Nonprofit Conference in Charleston
at the Charleston Riverview Hotel March 24-26, 2004!
Kim Klein will be back! She was the keynote speaker at the
2002 conference and got
such rave reviews that we've decided to ask her back! Kim is
known internationally as a fundraising trainer and consultant.
She is the founder and co-publisher of the bi-monthly
Grassroots Fundraising Journal, and the author of
Fundraising for Social Change (now in its fourth edition)
and its companion, Fundraising for the Long Haul. Along
with tips and techniques, Kim presents the philosophical
underpinnings for long-term commitment to social change work and
the means to make it sustainable. Klein knows the difficulties
of organizations that are understaffed and under-resourced and
provides practical assistance-almost a road map-for
organizations wanting a long and healthy life.
Many other
dynamic speakers will share information and tools for nonprofit
leaders to use in strengthening their organizations to better
serve the citizens and communities of our state. The conference
has been an overwhelming success in the past and we are up to
the challenge to make 2004 our best yet! Make plans to join us
in beautiful Charleston from March 24-26, 2004!
