Guiding Principles and Best Practices

The South Carolina Association of Nonprofit Organizations is pleased to offer a web version of the revised, second edition of Guiding Principles & Best Practices for South Carolina Nonprofits. This publication was first issued in early 2007, when SCANPO celebrated its 10th anniversary of service as the premier resource for networking, education and information on behalf of the state’s nonprofit sector.

Our ultimate goal is that, through widespread adoption of these principles and practices, South Carolina nonprofits will grow stronger and will demonstrate they can govern themselves responsibly.  The hoped-for result is to preserve the trust and confidence of the public, whose continued support is critical to the sector’s vitality.

We live and work in a dynamic environment; thus we anticipate that the Guiding Principles & Best Practices will continue to evolve.  Accordingly SCANPO will advice members of changes and maintain a current edition on our website.

The voices and experience of our partners help ensure this document remains relevant.  We encourage you to continue to share your thoughts and suggestions as you seek to put these practices to work in your organizations.
